Alkathon Lottery on September 28th, 2026

Alkathons are back. Groups can host a two-hour meeting slot at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Eve, and slots are assigned by lottery at the Intergroup General Meeting on Sept. 28. Now is the time for your group to discuss whether, and when, you would like to host.

Each Alkathon begins at 6:00 pm on the eve of the holiday and runs until 10:00 pm on the holiday itself. The final meeting slot begins at 8:00 pm. Alkathon meetings are held in person only; there is no Zoom option.

How the lottery works

Your group’s Intergroup representative must attend in person to enter. Selections cannot be made over Zoom.

  1. Baskets for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve are set out on the table. As representatives arrive, they fill out a form and place it in the basket for each Alkathon their group would like to host. A group interested i one holiday puts a form in that basket alone.
  2. Drawing begins with Thanksgiving. Each ticket drawn chooses its preferred time slot, and drawing continues until every slot is filled.
  3. Christmas follows, then New Year’s Eve. Any group already selected for an earlier holiday is skipped.
  4. If slots remain open after the drawing, groups may sign up to host a second meeting.

Skipping groups that have already been selected ensures that as many groups as possible get a chance to host, and that no single group takes multiple slots.

If your group is selected

Your group is responsible for staffing and supplying its own two-hour slot:

  • A secretary
  • One or more speakers
  • Two people in the kitchen
  • Soda sales
  • Coffee
  • Food

All food at the Alkathons comes from the groups hosting each slot. You will receive a volunteer sign-up sheet to help organize your group’s commitments.

Other ways to help

There are many ways to take part even if your group is not hosting a meeting. Contact the Alkathon Chair to find out what is needed.
