Statement of Purpose

Sonoma County General Service‚ District 12‚ serves the groups of Sonoma County. It is one of 22 Districts that make up California Northern Coastal Area 06 (CNCA). These Districts of Area 06 provide the chain of communication between the groups they serve and the General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous. The District Chairperson (DCMC) and Officers‚ along with the District Committee Members (DCMs) of 11 sub-districts (a geographical unit within the District)‚ serve the Sonoma County groups via the General Service Representatives (G.S.R.s).

Sub-committees of District 12 include Access Sonoma County (ASC)‚ Bridging the Gap (BTG)‚ and the Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community (PI/CPC) committees. Through the group sharing sessions‚ district business meetings‚ workshops and events‚ and the area monthly business meetings and 4 annual assemblies‚ District 12 participates in the process of carrying the group voice to our Delegate and the General Service Conference.

As stated in the GSR Preamble: “…As trusted servants‚ our job is to bring information to our groups in order that they can reach an informed group conscience. In passing along this group conscience‚ we are helping to maintain the unity and strength so vital to our fellowship. Let us‚ therefore‚ have the patience and tolerance to listen while others share‚ the courage to speak up when we have something to share‚ and the wisdom to do what is right for our group and A.A. as a whole.” (Reprinted with permission of the AA Grapevine‚ Inc.)

What Positions are available?

Sonoma County groups are linked to A.A. as a whole when represented by a General Service Representative. There are many opportunities to be a G.S.R. Experience has shown us that the most effective G.S.R.s have been active in their groups and other service‚ with at least two years of continuous sobriety‚ and a working knowledge of our 12 Steps and 12 Traditions. They have time available for district meetings and area assemblies. They have the confidence of the group‚ and an ability to listen to all points of view.
